Supporters double fundraising goal for SC State’s 125th anniversary

Tuesday, February 22, 2022
Thanks to the generous support of alumni and other friends of South Carolina State University, the “Ready All to Do and Dare” fundraising campaign was doubly successful.

The campaign generated more than $2.5 million to support scholarships and student endeavors – twice the $1.25 million goal established last fall.

SC State Interim President Alexander Conyers and National Alumni Association President Hank Allen announced the achievement Friday, Feb. 18, on Facebook Live and presented checks to three campus organizations to support activities.  They were later joined by First Lady Agatha Conyers in thanking donors for their efforts.

“The Ready All to Do and Dare campaign was launched as a tribute to the 125th anniversary of the founding of our illustrious institution,” Allen said, “and it marked our celebration of the educational excellence of SC State, as shown through the accomplishments of our students, faculty, staff and alumni.”

“We aimed high and set a campaign goal of $1.25,” President Conyers added. “Our objective was to build the annual fund, making it possible to grow the pool of unrestricted monies that will be used to enhance the university experience for our students through various programs and initiatives.

“We are happy to report that because of you, the Ready All to Do and Dare campaign not only met its goal, the campaign goal was exceeded,” he said. “The Bulldog Nation and its educational, corporate and community supporters have raised more than $2.5 million for the annual fund.  We would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all of you who gave to our campaign.”

The support made it possible for SC State to award $10,000 to the Bulldog Battalion ROTC program, $50,000 to the Student Government Association/Campus Activities Board and $100,000 to the Marching 101 Band. The remainder of the funding will go toward scholarships and special academic areas at the university.

More than 2,800 people contributed to the campaign. Donations from students, employees and graduates ranged from $31 to $100,000.

Mrs. Conyers also noted that the campaigned raised more than $112,000 on Giving Tuesday alone.

The Atlanta Chapter of the National Alumni Association raised more than $24,000 during Celebration Bowl weekend in December, when the Bulldogs football team won the National HBCU championship. Another initiative asked for donations of $31 in honor of the 31 points the Bulldogs scored in the Celebration Bowl, raising more than $50,000 .

During the campaign, nine alumni made the decision to complete their cumulative giving requirements for the Miller Society, the threshold for which is $100,000.

“Bulldog Nation, you are the reason why our institution is once again well positioned to be the leader among the nation’s best higher education providers,” Allen said. “We ask that you continue to support SC State with your financial resources as well as your time and talent.”

“In addition to your continued support, we need your unwavering commitment to South Carolina State University and our great students,” Mrs. Conyers added.
