Loyal Daughter, Douglas Gantt, is a 1984 graduate of South Carolina State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He also holds a master’s degree in education from Troy University. He is a life member of the National Alumni Association, presently serving as the Co-Chair of the Public Policy Committee. He is also a dedicated member of the Greater Augusta Chapter. Douglas currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at South Carolina State University. His leadership has championed initiatives that have helped expand research opportunities, generated more funding from the General Assembly, boosted alumni involvement, and focused on the university’s infrastructure. He has upheld the institution’s proud traditions and ushered in a new era of innovation, resilience, and excellence. Professionally, Douglas is a senior marketing and sales professional with over thirty years of experience in pharmaceutical sales, having spearheaded start-up activities for a royal palace in Saudi Arabia, Camp Doha, Kuwait, SCANA Security, and the nuclear weapons facility at the Savannah River Site. Douglas has gained expertise in relationships and consultative selling, setting up and motivating effective sales teams, and formulating strategic sales teams during his extraordinarily successful career in several leadership roles. In particular, he directed and managed all activities related to the marketing, promotion, and sale of SCANA security products in the state of Georgia. His aggressive yet non-threatening approach consistently produced quick and favorable results in each position he has held. At SCANA Security, he developed a progressive marketing and sales strategy that exceeded the quota by more than 75%, which allowed the office to double its customers in the first year. Douglas is a member of several business clubs and leadership organizations and has developed an extensive network of influential senior-level contacts in the business community. Most recently, he was selected as Alumnus of the Year and was also presented with a Bulldog Excellence Award. On September 27, 2025, he will be inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame. Douglas is married to his high school sweetheart, Debra Creed Gantt. They have two children, Constance and Douglas Jr., and one granddaughter, Simoni.
