Penelope V. Glover

Greater Charlotte Alumni Chapter

Loyal Daughter, Penelope V. Glover , is a native of Bowman, South Carolina and a proud alumna of the historic South Carolina State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work and a Master of Arts Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. She continued her studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Social Work, the Jordan Institute for Families, and the UNC-Charlotte Social Work Program.

A staunch advocate for the welfare and safety of adults, Penelope has blazed trails, enhanced lives, strengthened communities, and championed the underserved throughout her career. Professionally, Penelope is the Adult Day Services Coordinator for the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services. In this capacity, she is responsible for facility operations and compliance.  Additionally, she serves as the liaison between the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Aging and the Department of Social Services.  She is a proven leader who has dedicated thirty years to public service and government.

As a champion of social and civic service, and as a change agent, Penelope is driven by advocacy and community service.  Penelope has achieved Silver Star and Life Membership status in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Eta Alpha Omega Chapter, Rock Hill, SC, and she is also a member of the National Association of Social Work; the Harvey B. Gantt Center for Afro American Arts and Culture; the International African American Museum; the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture; the STATE Club; and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.

Additionally, she is an active and devoted alumna who is featured in the 2025 South Carolina State University National Alumni Association Stellar Alumni Calendar for Outstanding Community Service, and she was also recognized as the 2018 Alumni of the Year, Charlotte Chapter; and a 2017 honoree in the Who’s Who in Black Charlotte, Celebrating African American Achievement.  Penelope is a Life Member of South Carolina State University National Alumni Association, and a dedicated member of the Charlotte Alumni Chapter, affectionately known as the Queen City Bulldogs where she served in countless leadership positions.

Penelope is the daughter of Ms. Deloris Dickson Glover and the late Mr. Arthur R. Glover.  She has two sisters, Shana (Corin) Gillens and Kimberly R. Glover, and is a proud aunt. She is also honored to be the godmother of her nephew, Jeremiah and goddaughters, Fantasha and Vicky. Additionally, she has a host of relatives who are SCSU alumni including her mother and sisters. Truly, Penelope is a loyal daughter who is committed and dedicated to the betterment of our beloved South Carolina State University.
