Millicent McKenney Stackhouse

Washington, D.C. Alumni Chapter

Loyal Daughter, Millicent McKenney Stackhouse, is a 1987 South Carolina State University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a commission in the U.S. Army's Adjutant General Corps. Millicent is a dedicated member of the Washington, D.C., Chapter, where she has served as the chapter's hospitality chair, vice president, and president.

At the outset of her career, Millicent honorably served her country in the United States Army, where she successfully led a unit as a young lieutenant during Operations Desert Shield/Storm. After deciding to leave the military to focus on family, Millicent went on to earn a Master of Arts in Special Education from Fayetteville State University. Millicent has dedicated her life to serving diverse communities as an educator and recently shifted her focus to literacy advocacy. In 2023, Millicent completed an intensive reading specialist certification program at George Mason University. Millicent believes that ensuring reading comprehension and literacy is one of today's society's most significant social justice issues.

Millicent proudly serves her community as a Silver Star member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is also a member of the National Council of Negro Women, the League of Women Voters, the International Literacy Association, the SCSU Military Alumni Association, and Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia.

Millicent is married to her college sweetheart, LTC(R) Heyward Stackhouse, a 1987 SCSU graduate who currently serves as an executive within the Department of the Treasury. They have two children, Zuri (Darius) and Zoel. They are also proud grandparents of Darius and Zion.
