Alumni Legacy Builder Award – Evangeline R. “Angel” Pointer

The Our HBCUs Matter Foundation, Inc. proudly recognizes Evangeline R. “Angel” Pointer, Director of Customer Service at South Carolina State University, with the Alumni Legacy Builder Award at the 2025 Our HBCUs Matter Awards.

Evangeline R. “Angel” Pointer, MBA, SSM, PMP is a three-generation Bulldog and proud 2012 honors graduate of South Carolina State University with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science. She also earned her MBA in Management with honors from Strayer University and holds Project Management Professional (PMP) and SAFe 6 Scrum Master certifications.

Angel built a successful corporate career with Verizon Wireless, Lowe’s Corporate, and Wells Fargo before returning home to SCSU. As Director of Alumni Affairs and Engagement, she brought a new vibe to traditions like helped pave the way for the MEAC Alumni Directors Award. In 2025, she was promoted to Director of Customer Service, where she leads the Bulldog Excellence in Service initiative and the creation of the university’s first comprehensive customer service department aiming to establish SC State as the standard in collegiate excellence.

Angel is deeply committed to alumni engagement. She is a life member of the SCSU National Alumni Association, serving as Second Vice President of the Charlotte Chapter. Locally, she has chaired the Technology, Gala Planning, and Membership Committees, and nationally she engages on multiple committees, chairing the Virtual Experience and Social Media Committees.

Her leadership has earned her numerous honors, including 2019 Charlotte Chapter Newcomer of the Year, 2022 SCSUNAA National Distinguished Young Alumnus of the Year, 2023 Charlotte Chapter Alumnus of the Year, and induction into the SCSU 40 Under 40 Class of 2025.

A true Bulldog at heart, Angel often says, “There is not an airport I’ve walked in without wearing something that boldly says SC State, and there is not a room I’ve entered that I don’t speak her name.” Known for her bold personality and signature style, she adds with a smile, You can usually find her popping my fan and representing my HBCU everywhere she goes.
